No short term vacation rentals. The minimum rental period at Makaha Surfside is 30 days. All owners renting out their unit must be registered with the State of Hawaii as a transient accommodation at http//tax.hawaii.gov

I want to rent my unit, what do I do?

There are a number of things you must to do before renting your unit: 1) Obtain a Business License. The State of Hawaii requires you to obtain a License before you can rent your unit; 2) Decide how you will manage your rental i.e. on your own or through an agent. You are required to have an agent if you are not on the island while your unit is rented. The Office needs the Agent contact information in case of emergency or to discuss other matters i.e. your tenants are causing problems; 3) Ensure you have the adequate insurance for your needs; 4) Know the House Rules and ensure your renters are aware of the rules as they will be expected to comply with them; 5) Register your tenants with the Makaha Surfside Office prior to occupancy. You must provide a copy of the rental agreement at the time of registration. At the registration, tenants will be given an orientation about living at the Surfside.

This information is required before issuing vehicle decals.

Yes, there are guest parking stalls available on a first-come, first-serve basis. All vehicles parking in guest parking must display a Guest Parking Pass that is issued by the Operations Front Gate when you enter the property.

What do I do about water leaking into my unit?

You should call the Office or Security to report a water leak. We will investigate the leak to determine and document its source and the extent of related damages. If necessary, to prevent further damage, the Association will perform emergency clean up of water in units requiring it. Clean up and repair of damages to your unit is a matter between you and the owner or agent of the unit that caused the damage. If the leak is caused by a building common element, the Association will take care of repairs. Most water leaks are caused by something happening in an individual unit, such as a toilet overflowing or a valve failing. It is good practice to maintain your unit’s plumbing in good working order. It is also very prudent to maintain your own insurance coverage for such matters since our building insurance will not normally cover you or your belongings.

How do I shut off water to my unit?

We cannot shut off water to an individual unit. For your individual unit you should have individual hot and cold shut-off valves beneath all of your sinks; a separate valve for your refrigerator; and, a valve behind your toilet. If any of the above mentioned shut-off valves will not work, you need to call the Office or Securitbasesy and schedule a water shutdown to have these repaired. Water shut downs may be scheduled Monday through Friday between 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm. 24 hours notice is required to inform effected units. Emergencies will be handled on a case by case bases determined by the maintance superviser.

Do I need approval to renovate my unit?

Certain renovations require approval. See the Office about details and to obtain a renovation packet. Only Licensed Contractors are allowed for major renovations.

Do you recommend vendors and contractors?

We may refer Residents to different contractors, but for liability reasons we cannot recommend use of particular vendors for work in your unit. Contact the Office for details.

Do you allow pets?

Yes there are requirements that must be met prior to bringing your pet on property. Please go to the office to get a copy of our pet policy..
