F.A.Q.

All Makaha Surfside units are individually owned and managed. The Office manages Makaha Surfside on behalf of the AOAO and does not manage individual units. If you are interested in buying or renting at Makaha Surfside, you can contact a local Realtor or check the local newspaper for information. If you are on site, you can check the lobby bulletin board outside the Office for information posted by owners and agents.

There are a number of things you must do before renting your unit:

1) Obtain a Business License. The State of Hawaii requires you to obtain a License before you can rent your unit;

2) Decide how you will manage your rental i.e. on your own or through an agent. You are required to have an agent if you are not on the island while your unit is rented. The Office needs the Agent contact information in case of emergency or to discuss other matters i.e. your tenants are causing problems;

3) Ensure you have the adequate insurance for your needs;

4) Know the House Rules and ensure your renters are aware of the rules as they will be expected to comply with them;

5) Register your tenants with the MSS Office prior to occupancy. You must provide a copy of the rental agreement at the time of registration. At the registration, tenants will be given an orientation about living at MSS.

The Office will provide you a parking decal once all current information for your vehicle(s) has been obtained. This information includes year, make/model, color and license number as well as proof of a valid driver’s license, current insurance, state registration, and a safety check for the vehicle. This information is required before issuing vehicle decals.

The operating hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. for pool, sauna, and weight room.

Yes. Any found property is turned in to the Office so it can be logged into a Lost and Found Log Book. We will keep found property for 30 days. If it is unclaimed after that period, we turn it over to the person who found it. If you lose any property at Makaha Surfside, you file a report with Security at the guard shack or at the office.
