Kyaw Tha Hla

ASSOCIATION OF APARTMENT OWNERS OF MAKAHA SURFSIDE

NOTICE OF INTENT TO SOLICIT PROXIES

Aloha, my name is Kyaw Tha Hla (first name pronounced “Jaw” like the jaw on your face), Apartments A-207 & C-428.

Reason for Seeking Participation on the Board

I am running for Board of Directors because it is a special opportunity, and responsibility, to participate in the success of this great and unique property. I visited every apartment complex from Maili Cove to Makaha Shores, multiple times, and no property matched Makaha Surfside for:

  • Value, Views, Grounds, Amenities, Security, Parking, Staff, Accessibility (elevator imperative for 88-year old Mom)

Vision for the Future

Though I am immensely pleased with the current state of Makaha Surfside, time works its magic and everything in life, therefore, either improves or withers.

For the future of Makaha Surfside I see:

  • Continued rigor in maintaining all physical structures
  • Attention to protections along the coastline we share
  • Encouraging increased participation by all residents
  • Ensuring staff continues to be respected
  • Furthering the ohana spirit

My Experience

  • Co-owner, two restaurants in Manhattan (NYC)
  • Executive Director and a founder, 25-year non-profit organization, ThinGyan Association, which promoted Burmese Arts & Culture in the New York area with annual festivals, cultural performances, and outreach
  • Interpreter, Burmese citizens seeking asylum, for Homeland Security
  • Translator, Burmese-language textbooks (NYC Board of Education)
  • Co-Founder, 16-year+ short film festival (SATO48)
  • Professional Hula Dancer!

I have served on and consulted for numerous committees and boards (NewFest, Brooklyn Arts Council, NYC Dept. of Education, Burmese Women of New York) and am familiar with the need to balance legal requirements, group aspirations, and budgets, to achieve the best possible outcome for the most number of people.

Mahalo.
